Ba Swele Mfana Murder Case Takes New Turn Amid Kidnapping and Self-Defence Claims.
New claims of self-defence and alleged kidnapping have emerged in the Ba Swele Mfana murder case as two suspects apply for bail in Polokwane.
The murder case involving Limpopo artist Adifele Maimela has taken a new direction following developments presented during a bail hearing at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
Two suspects, July Mashishi and Lucas Mothiba, are currently applying for bail in connection with the fatal shooting of the 25-year-old Lekompo producer.
During proceedings, the court heard claims that the shooting may have occurred in self-defence. According to the defence, the accused were responding to a distress call from a woman identified as Chantel, who allegedly feared she was about to be abducted.
It is further alleged that upon arriving at the scene in Polokwane on 7 April, the suspects encountered a group of men. An altercation reportedly followed after they inquired about Chantel’s whereabouts.
The defence states that the situation escalated into a confrontation, during which one of the accused discharged a firearm. The individuals involved allegedly fled the scene following the shooting.
According to testimony presented in court, the suspects then proceeded to the local police station to report the incident. Upon returning to the scene on Magazyn Street, they were informed that the individual who had been shot had succumbed to his injuries.
The case has drawn significant attention within South Africa crime news, particularly due to the emerging claims of attempted kidnapping and self-defence, which could influence the direction of legal proceedings in high-profile court cases South Africa.
Maimela, known in music circles as “Ba Swele Mfana,” was recently laid to rest in Mmotong, as investigations and court processes continue.
The bail application remains ongoing, with the court expected to consider all evidence before making a determination
